Volume 2: Films
Again, I don't think I can list them by rank, just a list of 10-ish that reflect what I love.
This is my list, so trilogies and such count. Deal with it.
None of these are hard to find, so have fun watching them.
Let's just disqualify the MCU, right off the bat. It's on that higher level than the rest, like The Beatles, but in VERY long form.
Personal Favorites
The LOTR/Hobbit Trilogies: When I got nothing to do for a day or so, why the hell not?
Sucker Punch: The scene that featured "Tomorrow Never Knows"....shivers. Fight Club: Mostly because I realized fairly early that it was a parody of toxic masculinity and I REALLY like the author. Soundtrack wasn't awful, either. Valkyrie: I could sit through a static photo of a cloud for two hours if I knew Tom Cruise gets shot at the end (spoiler alert, I guess). American Pop: What a tale. Not the only Ralph Bakshi title on this list, but my personal favorite. Flatland: Dimensional shenanigans. Go watch it, as I am unsure how to describe it. Gandahar: The other Bakshi title in this list. It's....a mind-f---, to be certain. Monsters University: First movie I saw with X at the theater.
Justice League, The Snyder Cut: It was worth the wait and signing petitions and all that. It really was. Papillion: The original with Hoffman. I am a sucker for that era of Hollywood, and the story on this one is one I can feel. The remake is really good, too.
Dazed & Confused: We watched it a few times when I was starting my THC journey. I watched it with X when he shifted from middle to high school. Good movie. The Dirty Dozen: Another from a long-gone age of Hollywood. I watched it a few times with the grandfolks, and still enjoy it.
Neverending Story: Dude, when I was a kid, that was my $hit, yo. It was mostly my introduction to fantasy, which led to Choose-your-own-adventure books, which led much later(after years of making bad decisions) to 3-d Bethesda era Fallout and Elder Scrolls games.
The Secret Of Nimh: It has been very long time since I've seen it. From what I remember from being a kid, it was the best movie ever. Ok....I need to watch this one with X. Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes: First movie I watched on VHS. I used to watch it when it was slow at work, just don't tell Tony. and finally, but not least of all: Pee-Wee's Big Adventure: (as "My Hero" by the FF plays....) I used to watch this with my Dad. The show, the movies, the Christmas special, all of it, religiously. His playhouse was playing on tv in the delivery room when Casandra went into labor with X. RIP, Paul Rueben.
Didnt Quite Make The List (But Still Good/Great):
Blazing Saddles, Reefer Madness, SLC Punk, Anything from Monty Python deserves recognition at all times, A Clockwork Orange, Kung Pow: Enter the Fist, I Love You Phillip Morris, Mannequin, Step Brothers, Doomsday (I said no MCU, and its still months away, but I'm pumped for this one.), Disasterpieces (A Slipknot concert video), Honestly....I love movies. at home, with the kid, alone, at the theater, whatever.
What's YOUR top ten (or whatever)? Feel free to comment. I enjoy the suggestions/input.
With love 'Squito Valdez
PS It's really Aaron. I just like using the pseudonym.
